About American Civic Power

About American Civic Power

American Civic Power (ACP) is a grassroots civic organization dedicated to promoting civic engagement, strengthening democratic participation, and equipping everyday citizens with the knowledge and tools to take action. We believe the most powerful force in a free society is an informed and organized people. We call them Civestors — and this is their home.

A Vision Written in 2002 — More Relevant Than Ever

The following essay was written by ACP founder Dan Devine in 2002, at the dawn of the internet’s transformation of civic and political life. More than two decades later, its core insight remains valid: the internet has democratized access to power, and citizens who equip themselves with civic knowledge are the ones who shape the future.

The Internet Changed Everything

Today, the internet enables people to take direct action and make a difference in the world. Across our nation, individual power is growing rapidly as the internet reaches more people every day. This is having significant political consequences.

Traditional power brokers and media pundits no longer dominate the political discourse. Conventional party operatives no longer override the concerns of everyday citizens. Access to power is no longer an exclusive privilege controlled by the politically connected. Today, we are all politically connected.

Grassroots Power is Rising

Now that power is everywhere, opportunities for self-organization, grassroots activism, and local collaboration are expanding. Communities are forming around issues that directly affect their lives. The political establishment is losing its grip. Democracy can flourish — and the will of the people can prevail.

Political insiders are unsettled by this shift. They no longer hold dominance, and that is exactly as it should be.

The Economic Stakes

The economic impact of political power is enormous. Wall Street and corporate America are thriving, while wealth is being concentrated at the top through inequity-driven systems. These political and economic trends have been building since the 1970s and are accelerating.

Technology continues to reshape the political landscape in ways that are inspiring, overwhelming, and unprecedented. The balance of power will favor those who equip themselves with the civic resources to organize, educate, and take direct action.

That's Why ACP Exists

American Civic Power was built to provide concerned citizens with exactly those resources. Whether you’re just starting to engage or have been organizing for years, ACP is here to inform, connect, and empower you.

We, the People, hold the power. It’s time to use it.

“Civestors civest. They show up, speak out, and invest their civic power in the communities they call home. Are you one?”
