Join ACP - American Civic Power

We declare the establishment of American Civic Engagement to advance democracy, a civic organization rooted in a simple, enduring conviction: American democracy must be advanced, strengthened, and expanded so that every citizen’s voice carries weight in the halls of our Constitutional Republic. This is not a moment for timidity but a call to purpose, a renewed commitment to the ideals on which our nation was founded, and a practical plan to restore accountability to our government.

The purpose of ACE and its platform is to advance American democracy. Our democracy is strongest when the will of all Americans drives public policy. We must confront a critical challenge to the integrity of our political system: the influence of money in politics.

The 2010 Supreme Court decision in Citizens United, along with prior court decisions, has allowed corporate money to flood campaigns, distorting representation and incentivizing policymakers to prioritize corporate and special interests over the public good. To restore trust and accountability, we must confront and reform the mechanisms that enable unaccountable spending to shape public policy.

Our platform calls for concrete reforms to strengthen democracy and reduce the distortions caused by moneyed influence. Specifically, we advocate repealing Citizens United to restore integrity to campaign finance and curb the influx of opaque “dark money.” We support adopting ranked-choice voting and proportional representation to ensure that congressional elections more accurately reflect the electorate's diverse preferences.

Article 1 of our Constitution states that Congress is delegated to represent the American people directly. Yet since January 30, 1976, when the Supreme Court issued its landmark decision in Buckley v. Valeo, developments have produced an electoral arrangement that often appears misaligned with the will of ordinary citizens. A.C.E. aims to address this misalignment by empowering voters, increasing civic participation, and demanding governance that prioritizes the public interest over oligarchic gain.

We recognize the broad concern voiced by many observers that modern governance is increasingly oriented toward privatizing public services. If, in the view of many observers, the power elite in Washington seeks to privatize essential public functions for corporate gain, then our response must be to reassert democratic control over critical government functions, uphold accountability, and ensure that public goods remain publicly governed where necessary to protect the common good.

This movement is not merely about critique; it is about organizing for a constructive alternative. Projecting a forward-looking agenda, we seek to build a civic environment in which policy decisions are guided by transparent data, accountable institutions, and genuine public deliberation. Our aim is to encourage a healthier democratic culture in which citizens are informed, engaged, and empowered to participate meaningfully in the electoral process.

We, the People, must demand democracy by harnessing all our civic resources. We will empower every voter to participate in the American electoral process through education, outreach, and collaboration. We will inspire concerned individuals to organize, convene, and unite—transforming the current civic landscape into a paradigm that truly reflects the will and welfare of the American people.

Thank you for visiting our platform and for sharing in this vision. We hope you join us. We must advance democracy—and together, we will build a government that serves all Americans, fairly and transparently.
